The prestigious National Home Improvement Council Annual Awards 2011 recognise your achievement in the UK housing arena. Since its introduction in1974 the Awards Scheme has steadily progress from strength to strength and is now highly regarded as the nation’s premier housing event in its particular sector.

Last year’s NHIC Annual Award scheme attracted entries from across the spectrum of housing modernisation projects and initiatives, as well associated activities such as energy efficiency, renewable technologies, safety and design quality, and so on.

Entry really is quite straightforward. Your Award submission or submissions can be entered as PDFs which make thing much more convenient, paper-free and faster. Everything is totally FREE.

Certass which stands for certification and self assessment, was formed several years ago and was one of the original Quality Mark certification bodies. It is therefore a natural progression for Certass to move into the self assessment market. Certass can provide a One Stop Shop for glazing contractors (who give Insurance via QANW) whereby they need only declare their completed contracts once to Certass, and they will pass all relevant information on to the various insurance providers, thus simplifying current arrangements and avoiding extra paper work and administration.

Raising standards in training and skillsTrustMark

Part of TrustMark’s remit is to encourage the raising of standards in training and skills within the domestic repair, maintenance and improvement sector.This Award is for the best project which demonstrates an innovative approach to successfully raising standards within a sector or firm.

Sponsor: TrustMark in conjunction with the NHIC Educational Trust

The award is open to both TrustMark Scheme Operators (Category 1) and TrustMark Registered Firms (Category 2). Awards will be given to the best entry and runner up from each category.

The brief is deliberately left very open to interpretation to encourage innovative entries. Raising standards in a sector by a Scheme Operator could be the introduction of new qualifications and the encouragement of firms to use them. In the case of a firm, it could be putting all staff through a customer care training programme. In every case, the entry must identify what the problem was eg. poor knowledge of a subject; how it was tackled and what outcomes were achieved. The submission should also contain independent endorsements of the results, case studies and photographs if applicable

 
Category Seven

British Gas

Innovative Emerging Technology for Microgeneration and Smart Homes

This award is aimed at technologies that have progressed beyond early development stage and are imminently due to enter the commercial market place or have done so in the previous 12 months.

Entries will need to show great potential for mass market adoption as a retro fit product for the UK housing sector, and can demonstrate significant energy and CO2 savings. It is a broad category, and encourages entries from microgeneration, energy efficiency and smart home technologies.
